Lunar New Year 2007
February 12th, 2007 by Amy
Did you know, Chinese New Year is actually also Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Burmese and Lao? So to be politically correct, we’ll refer to it as Lunar New Year.
Lunar New Year falls on Saturday February 17th this year, right at the start of reading week (so you don’t have to worry about those midterms just yet). And to celebrate, from February 16 to February 18, “Toronto Celebrates Lunar New Year 2007” is taking place in the Automotive Building at the Exhibition Place. It bills itself as “The Largest Lunar New Year Festival in Canada”. Tickets are $8 in advance (purchase online here), or $10 at the door.
Features include lion dances, acrobats, magic shows, feng-shui predictions, kung-fu performances, Asian street foods, traditional Asian market fair and much more.
The Festival appeals to all and has something to offer everyone who enters its doors: there is plenty to do, see, taste and experience. It is about togetherness and sharing: the cultures of Asia, fun times, happiness, and hope for the impending New Year!
By the way, if you were born in the Year of the Pig, congratulations. It’s your “gong li nian”.
