5 Most Hilarious Boredom-Killing Websites Ever
November 5th, 2008 by Tom TippinNow that we’re two months deep into the academic year and fully disillusioned ,yet again, over our poor choice of courses, most of us are forced to ponder one of mankind’s most confounding dilemmas - the question of how best to distract ourselves during class. As we all know, there’s really only two things you can do when you’re bored stiff in a lecture: You can either start mentally undressing your classmates, or you can screw around on your laptop. If you tend to lean toward the second option, then this is the article for you. Behold, the 5 Most Hilarious Websites to read in class:
#5) SEANBABY.COM

Seanbaby is one of the pioneers of internet comedy. While some of his references might be a little obscure for the 18-and under crowd, his site is a must-read for anyone who grew up in the mid-80’s to early 90’s. He crafted his site from the ground up when the internet movement was just beginning to gain steam in the early 2000’s, before the explosion of blogs and cookie cutter social networking pages. A very unique and funny site. BEST PART: The Nintendo page will bring both hearty laughs and nostalgic tears to your eyes.
#4) COLLEGE HUMOR

CollegeHumor, or as we would say in Canada “CollegeHumour”, is a comedy site owned, developed, and maintained by college students…or at least people who once were college students. Nevertheless, it is hilarious and constantly updated-best of all, anyone can contribute if they think they have it in them. It’s relatively well known by now, so if you haven’t heard of it check it out post haste. BEST PART: The CHTV videos are very, very good. My personal favourite? The Honest College Ad. Remind you of somewhere?
#3) CRACKED

Cracked.com is sort of like an NFL place kicker. It really only does one thing, but it does that particular thing extremely well, and therefore justifies its existence. In Cracked’s case, this thing is coming up with hilarious (and sometimes informative) lists. From ‘20 Costumes That Will Earn You A Halloween Beating’ to ‘The 25 Worst Rapper Names Of All Time’, the good people at Cracked have listed it all. Updated pretty much every day too, which is generally good. BEST PART: The ‘9 Most Meaningless Corporate Slogans’ made me question the value of a marketing degree.
#2) THE ONION

If you have never heard of The Onion, then consider this paragraph one of the greatest personal favours you could ever hope for. The undisputed masters of American sarcasm and dry wit, The Onion has been publishing their ”fake” newspaper on the web since 1996, and it somehow just keeps getting better and better. Take a quick visit to the site and I guarantee you’ll be laughing within 30 seconds at the headlines alone. You’re welcome. BEST PART: Since the imminent U.S. election is all the rage right now, check out the Election ‘08 section and enjoy an alternate perspective you simply can’t get from CNN. Which brings us to…
#1) THE BEST PAGE IN THE UNIVERSE by MADDOX

Written and designed by a self-proclaimed pirate known only as ‘Maddox’, The Best Page in the Universe is far and away the most gut-bustingly hilarious website on the face of the planet. Maddox throws common decency and political correctness out the window in order to deliver an extremely entertaining brand of no-nonsense, testosterone-charged narcissism. Don’t let the minimalist design fool you, Maddox’s stuff will keep you reading for hours, unless of course you’re easily offended, in which case the opposite of everything I just wrote is true. BEST PART: All the articles are good, but the ‘Fashion Tips’ piece is priceless.
So there you have it. 5 of the best websites you will ever lay eyes on. Happy reading!

So now you’re an internet blogger? With all the stories about how busy you are with school, I’m glad to see that you have options during classtime. Makes one wonder how we made it through lectures at UBC in the 80’s without laptops! Be well and study on, son.
