A Whole Lot of Drama: U of T Drama Festival and Other Upcoming Plays

U of T DramaThere’s the bad kind of drama, with lovers, back stabbers, two-timers, and lovers who turn out to be backstabbing two-timers. And then there’s good kind of drama. We’re going to get a whole lot of the good kind in the coming weeks at U of T.

The U of T Drama Coalition will be holding the 15th Annual U of T Drama Festival from January 31st to Feb 3rd, 2007. The Graduate Centre for Study of Drama will be putting on “Not Just Trifles: An Evening of Two One-Act Plays” from January 25th to February 4th, 2007. And if that’s not enough drama for you (or if you need some drama right now), Lysistrata is currently on at the Hart House Theatre till January 27th, 2007. All the details after the jump.

A progam listing of 15th Annual U of T Drama Festival can be found at this link. Tickets are $10 for students, and can be purchased at U of T Tix Office. All the events will be taking place at Hart House Theatre. There are 3 nights of 9 original one-act plays on the nights of Feb 1-3, from a variety of troupes such as Hart House Drama Society, UTSC Drama, UTM Drama, etc. It seems like there’ll be something for everyone. While Heroine Addiction by Hart House Drama Society is a play about deconstructive criticism, The Entertainer by St. Michael’s College and Woodsworth Drama Societies promises a story about a rock star, a decade-old plot for revenge, freestyle hip-hop battles, dark secrets, a post-modern freak show, and a beautiful woman in a chocolate cake.

“Not Just Trifles: An Evening of Two One-Act Plays”, presented by the Graduate Centre for Study of Drama will feature the two plays “Still Stands the House” and “Trifles” (Oooh, how witty! “Not Just Trifles”? Get it?). It runs from January 25 to February 4, 2007, Thurs-Sat at 8pm, Sun at 2pm at Robert Gill Theatre, 214 College St. Price is $10 for Students, and the sunday show is pay what you can.

Finally, Lysistrata is currently playing at the Hart House Theatre. It runs until January 27th, with performances on Wed. to Sat. at 8:00 pm, plus a 2:00 pm matinee on Saturday. Tickets are $12 for students, and can be purchase at U of T Tix online. This “contemporary spin on the Classic sexy comedy” certainly sounds very intriguing. Read more about the play here.
