We’re excited to introduce a new column on blogUT: Wish You Were Here. This is a column about great events that we’ve personally attended and genuinely wish for you to experience.

In this post, we’re talking about Nine, the musical by the UC Follies. We’ve posted about it previously, and I went to see the Saturday night (Feb 10th) show. Romance, drama, comedy, song and dance, with a stage full of beautiful, talented women and a dashing leading male. Wish you were here!

So, the story is this: a famous film writer/director’s career marriage are on the rocks. His last three films have been flops, and he has a bad case of writer’s block. At the same time, his wife is threatening to leave him, his producer’s at his throat, and his love affiars are spinning out of control.

We all know the music and songs are what really make a musical. From full stange choruses to solos and duets, the cast simply shone on stage. The fantastic musical numbers spun a convincing drama portraying scenes of love and loss, pain and anguish. What’s more, there’s a fair amount of humour that had the whole audience laughing. In addition, I must admit I especially enjoyed the few arousing, sensual scenes in the mix.

The only downside I can think of is that it ran a little long (over two hours with intermission). But with such a beautiful and talented troupe, it was well worth the time.

NINE plays until Feb 17th at the Harthouse Theatre. The remaining show dates are: Feb 14-17 WED-SAT 8pm & Feb 17 SAT 2pm MATINEE. Tickets are $12 for students, available at www.uofttix.ca, by phone (416-978-8849), or in person at Hart House Theatre.
