When is the last time you wrote a letter?
No, not an email, text message, facebook wall posting, or equivalent.
Chances are it’s been a while.
Now, when is the last time you wrote a letter to … The Universe?!
Well, here’s your chance!
Join the The Rothko Institute this Friday night at The Gladstone Hotel and write to your favourite (or least-favourite) aspect of existence. Here’s your chance to praise Justice, or to direct your rage therapeutically towards Rejection. The letters will be stamped, addressed and mailed just like real letters! No one knows where they’ll end up, but that’s all part of the excitement.
From the Facebook event page, a sample letter:
Dear Universe,
How have you been? I’ve seen you around constantly since I came in to existence and I gotta say, you are pretty cool. I especially like your karmic balance stuff, it’s fantastic. Lately, alternate realities that are a product of my imagination have been trying to move in on your territory but I think you are holding your own….Otherwise, things are going great; definitely continue this mono-directional passage of time business. The 3 dimensions are working well and are keeping me busy moving in every direction. Keep it up!
Peace,
Craig
P.S. Looking forward to tonight’s lunar eclipse!
When: Friday March 9th, 9pm-12am
Where: The Gladstone Hotel, Melody Bar
P.S. Don’t forget to bring a pen!
I send letters to my beau in Montreal, even though we talk pretty much every day. It’s pretty fun … I wish more people would do it.
I did realize how old-fashioned I was when my brother — only two years younger than I am — had to ask me how to address an envelope properly.
As someone who writes a minimum of two snail mail letters a week to friends (a promise I made to myself about five years ago), this is quite nice to see. Sadly, I can’t make it to the event, but can someone tell the Universe thank you from me?
I wish I could go too! But instead of writing letters to the universe, I should probably respond to letters from my friends.
Last year, I took up the initiative to exchange letters with some close friends who are far away… but so far, I’ve only written one letter to each of them.
We should have letter writing parties. =) Everyone grab a comforting drink and sit down and write letters.
This is a fantastic idea, JP! This definitely has to be arranged.
There is something so romantic- you know “Romantic Period” romantic- about writing letters.
There’s something about the tangibility of that letter in your hands. The same goes for books. Something that email/ebooks could never fully replace for that reason. Alas, the only thing I get in the mail are bills.
The event went really well. By the end of the night, we had a huge pile of letters! This is an ongoing project, not just a one time event so I encourage everyone to write a letter to the universe and mail it whenever you can.
i am always looking to get mail!!
