The Wiz – Full of Wit and Energy
March 20th, 2010 by winnaThis year’s production of The Wiz directed by the awesome Daniel Bennett of the Trinity College Dramatic Society definitely hit a high note with its audience. I loved the characters, each of them were so unique and hilarious in their own way. The dance chorus, comprised of amazingly talented performers had amazingly choreographed routines. Furthermore of course, was the music. The Wiz without its music is like spaghetti without spaghetti sauce. I had pasta afterward, hence this terrible analogy, sorry. I also really appreciated that there was a live orchestra who helped guide the entire production just outstandingly. Finally, I want to comment on how lively and energetic the whole production was which obviously kept the audience engaged and laughing the entire time.
Here are some memorable quotes and highlights I remembered (in no particular order):
- “Does my magnificent Emerald City displease you?”
- the Wiz licking his “Emerald” ring
- the “wicked” moves that the dance chorus were able to show off one by one as they “whizzed” past the stage in one scene
- “King fu”
- “this my friend is what we call a hay-maker!”
- “I was an only cub”
-”You are the best wicked witch killer in the country!”
- Ax fight between Tin man and lion

Great show. Quite enjoyable and so glad I made the 10 hour drive to see this production.
Dorothy, TinMan, Scarecrow and the Lion all did a superb ! The Scarecrow does an excellant job and quite funny. The production will keep you laughing. I highly recommend a front row seat if you want to be part of the show!
I must say the dance chorus is amazing. Not only did they do some wonderful dances but they did a wonderful transiton of the scenes.
Best of luck with the remaining shows.
