Exam Viewing – Arts & Science

May 13th, 2007 by John D.

This article is for those who have never viewed exams before. If you find a discrepancy between a mark that you expected and what you actually got, or if you are simply wondering how you did on the exam, I’d highly recommend you to view the exam. It’s absolutely free and filling out the paperwork only takes a second. You are allowed to view the exam for half an hour in a room on campus. You aren’t allowed to bring anything but they’ll provide you with a calculator so you can tally up the marks. You can read the lengthy instructions at here, but it basically boils down to:

  • hand in form
  • wait a week
  • make appointment

Read on for details.

To hand in the form, go to the Arts and Science office in Sidney Smith and tell them that you want to view an appointment. You will be provided with a form. Filling it out literally takes 10 seconds. On it, you need to provide your student information, the course code, the instructor (make sure you remember), and the month you wrote the exam. That’s it! Give the form back to them and wait a week. After that, call 416-946-7933 to make an appointment.

You’ll most likely be greeted with an automated voice message. Leave your name, phone, availability, and the exams you want to view. As for availability, the exam viewing room is only open on Mondays from 11am to 2pm. So give them a time between 11 and 2. Someone will call you back to inform you of the exact date and place.

If you are worried that you might have missed the deadline, don’t worry, it’s probably not too late. You get a ton of time. The deadlines are:

  • February examinations – the following August 31
  • April/May examinations – the following November 15
  • June examinations – the following January 15
  • August examinations – the following February 28/29
  • December examinations – the following June 30

Damn, the Art Scis get to view exams for free?

As an engineering student, it costs $13 to get a copy of your exam to see if there’s an error. Another $13 to request a mark recheck (which gets refunded if your mark changes).

    More info here:
    - copy of exam
    - mark recheck

We Art Scis used to get charged to get a copy of the exam as well as for the remark, but it was also refunded should the marking go our way…. (do you get doubly penalized for asking for a remark and being wrong??) and I was sure it cost more than $26 total for the whole thing….maybe things have changed.
