Funky Little Cafes on Campus – Diablos – blogUT

No, he’s not quite a victim of the slave trade, and yes, he is far too young to be drinking coffee, but at least it’s fair trade. But he is a bit upset that you keep on going to Timmy’s and Starbucks. Wanna try something a little more hip, funky, and a hell of a lot cheaper? You need to check out Diablos. If you want to know where to find the best atmosphere and buy the best coffee, tea and food on campus,

tea leaves

Diablos is a student-owned and operated cafe based out of the Junior Commons Room in University College. These guys seriously have the best coffee on campus (all fair trade as well) and it’s pretty cheap as well. Or, if you’re a bit like myself, you prefer tea they’ve got a wide variety bagged and seeped tea. My personal favourite is Green Cherry Tea, which I’ve posted just in case you think I’m on something other than caffeine. Actually, to be honest, this tea has become my drug, as I often refer to is as cherry heroin.
The food is pretty good (and cheap) too, they have the best butter chicken in Toronto, and also the best vegetarian butter chicken. I bet you’ve never tasted vegetarian chicken before! They also have wraps, sandwiches, samosas and other interesting food.

The UC Junior Common Room is also a pretty cool place too. It’s a grand ol’ hall that resembles something out of Harry Potter, with big long tables and lots of couches. It can get a bit noisy sometimes, but you can still study either your books or the people that walk by — I’d highly recommend the latter.

The reason this place is so unknown because it’s almost impossible to find. Diablos and the JCR is in the north-west part of University College beside the quadrangle. Unfortunately I’m graphically challenged and can’t find and edit a map for you, but if I do figure it out, I’ll be sure to post it. All you need to do is go into the college and ask one of those nice UC people where it is….chances are there will be someone in the quadrangle smoking and drinking their coffee and he or she will gladly point you in the right direction.

But seriously, check this place out, go…NOW!
