Nuit Blanche1

What: Scotia Bank Nuit Blanche
Where: All across the city
When: October 4, 2008 from 6:52 pm – sunrise
Website: Nuit Blanche.

Once again it’s almost that magical time when art permeates the entire city from the streets to the galleries, and just about anywhere you can imagine. It will be for one night only, but it will last all night long. This grand tradition of art for the people started in Paris and spread to Brussels and then through cities all over the world. Two years ago it landed in our fair city, and on October 4 from 6:52 pm ’till sunrise, the third Toronto edition will take place simultaneously, but for timezones, with Nuit Blanche in Paris and Brussels.

Nuit Blanche Toronto spans three separate zones: Zone A Downtown North (OCAD/AGO/ROM/U of T!), Zone B Downtown South (Financial District) and Zone C South West (West Queen West). It will feature hundreds of different installations and over 155 individual locations. It’s not possible to see it all so plan your night carefully and prioritize! Check the official site for event details. TTC will, like last year, extend their hours through the entire night for subway service from St. George Station to Eglinton Station only; and on the Bloor-Danforth Line between Christie Station and Broadview Station only. Normal fees are in effect unfortunately – so much for universal accessibility, sigh. Like all previous years U of T will be extensively involved, and Hart House, among other areas of the university, will be open all night. The ROM, the Gardiner Museum and other jewels of the city’s cultural scene will be free and open, so this is great chance to catch a glimpse of the dinosaurs in the new ROM crystal. We at BlogUT will be active and covering as much as possible so check back afterwards for our reviews of this great event. If you have a great time and want to share your experience then your short frontline experience and we may feature it along with ours! If yours is chosen we will try to arrange a modest prize, to go along with a little bit of blog fame.
