Back to School Fun

Godiva Band

It’s really strange how time seems to pass faster during the Holidays. A blink of an eye, and the new term’s starting again. I, for one, could definitely have used a few more weeks… or a month of vacation. But hey, it’s not all bad. At least there’s something fun going on as the semester kicks off.

UTSU(formerly known as SAC) is welcoming us back to school with (what I think is) the first annual Winterfest, the welcome back week of the new year. Also, the Engineers are launching the new school term with the long standing tradition of Godiva Week, which “is like F!rosh Week, but colder… and BETTER!” Details after the jump.

Details for Godiva Week:

There’s a ton of things going on, and the schedule can be found at: http://godivaweek.skule.ca/

Having attended the Mr. Blue & Gold contest last year, I can honestly say it’s an entertaining venue. It’s essentially a male beauty pageant with song and dance and whatever else the contestants can come up with. Oh, yeah, they also drop their pants upon command, as per tradition. I’m told the Godiva’s Crown competition (the female equivalent) is equally fun. The two events take place on Wednesday (January 10th) and Thursday (January 11th) respectively, at 5:00 p.m. in the Sanford Fleming atrium.

Another event worth mentioning is the “Ye Grande Olde Chariot Race”, in which the different engineering disciplines are pitted against each other in a full contact race, pushing a chariot around Front Campus in snow/mud. The race is at high noon on Wednesday (January 10th).

Details for Winterfest, according to the Facebook event page:

(sadly there’s no webpage, and insufficient details on the UTSU webpage… come on UTSU, get on the ball…. anyhow, event details are copied below for convenience and accessibility)
