A Letter From a Fellow First Year
February 4th, 2013 by Christine JacobLong time no see BlogUT! As a first year student who had no clue time flew by so quickly in university, I was naive enough to believe I would be able to fill my year with extracurriculars, school, work and a social life. Boy, was I wrong. I can’t believe it’s already the end of January when my first and only post for BlogUT was in October!
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but so far this term has been a lot harder than the previous. Maybe it’s because I’ve piled so much on my plate and simply don’t have enough energy or time to complete everything. Or maybe, it’s because I’ve gotten lazy. I’m pretty sure it’s a combination of the two. With 6 classes, a part time job, and being a commuter, sometimes student life can really suck. Although times have been hard this term and in the past few months (my lack of posts speak for themselves!), there has been a fair amount going on and I’m happy to say that I’ve accomplished a lot of what I had planned for this year.
I hope all of my fellow first years are dealing with second term better than the first, and feel completely integrated into university life. I’m sure we’ve all had our share of struggles this year, but we’re coming to terms with what it takes to survive at U of T. It’s all about staying calm and working hard. Take a breather every now and then. Whenever you feel like giving up, remember that we’re close to reading week and before we know it, we’ll be finished our first year!
Your fellow first year,
Christine
